At my first chorus rehearsal this season, our director asked us to put a word or phrase on our name tag. It was a getting to know you activity and could be anything descriptive that we wanted. Some people chose to write their hobbies and occupations – painter, blogger, tenor sax player. Others chose a mood – light hearted, grumpy. Then there were the life events – new guide dog, grandmother. Here are my three favorites that I saw that night.
Anticipating – Wow. I’d love to add to that the sentiment I know she intended, “joyfully anticipating.” I love that. How would our lives change if we really lived that way? If we woke up and said, ‘I can’t wait to see what this day brings, even if it seems mundane. I’m excited for whatever.”
Continually human – The funny thing is, this phrase comes from one of the most positive woman I’ve ever met. It seemed so philosophical that I had to ask what it meant to her that moment. The general answer is that sometimes we screw up, maybe hurt those we love, maybe really want to hurt those we love, but we know things will be ok again. I love the raw honesty of that.
Awesome – As this friend said, “If I don’t tell myself that, who will?” I’ve never claimed to be a humble person so I thought, “Why didn’t I think of that?” Then my Continuously Human friend told me this little gem of a story. She called her home answering phone from work one day. She left a message for herself to remind herself that basically, she’s a wonderful woman and doing a great job.
So get out there friends….put on an AWESOME sticker…call yourself if you have to, put a letter in the post, or a sticky note on the mirror.
