The Notebook – A Hospital Treasure
Since Aidan was in the hospital for 3 months and I had a toddler at the time, we were not able to be with Aidan all the time. There were friends who wanted to do something, and it seemed at that moment, the most wonderful thing they could do is hold Aidan and talk to him when I couldn’t be there. We put a notebook by his bed for people to record whatever they wanted. Here’s an excerpt from the opening entry by David:
For You Aidan…
Here we all sit
in an attempt to give strength
To your delicate grip
Talking, rocking, stroking your hair
Gazing back into your intense blue stare………
My wish Young Aidan
At a time real soon
Is the day you are relieved
of this cold sterile room
To the home that awaits you
we wish you to be
For without you the puzzle
So get well my young friend
Do all that you can
So one day
You might read this
As a fine young man.
His sister YaYa Jen then commented about her visit:
Aidan was awake when I came in and we had a lengthy discussion on Bush’s tax proposal and social security. Aidan is surprisingly conservative.
Uncle Bill wrote that Aidan was, “a most entertaining and gracious host. You certainly threw a wicked party.”
This notebook is my treasure, as the time people spent with my boy was a gift.
