Speak for Yourself Sale
It’s time to jump in with both feet. Get off the fence. Take a chance on your child. Give him some words. It’s ok to be nervous and overwhelmed and excited at the same time but don’t miss this half off sale of Speak for Yourself, the app that changed our lives. (I’m not at all affiliated with SfY but I get preachy because it really did change our lives)
Here’s what you can expect: Core vocabulary, or site words or high frequency words, well thought out and purposely placed on the home page. Katy Perry is all about core words and the importance of clear communication on your wedding day:
And then there’s this: Thousands of empty spaces for fringe words or crazy family vocabulary or hip and cool teenager talk. It’s easy to program “shamalamalama-yippidy dipdedong.” Olivia Newton John and John Travolta know their fringe vocabulary. (Adele Dazeem is not a fringe word. It’s just the wrong name of a talented artist but you can see why John would get carried away.)
And then there’s this: Aidan texting his Auntie BooBoo or telling me he’s BORED at the doctor’s office or that he WANTS to DRIVE.
For those of you who may be going boldy forward into AAC world with a lack of support, I’m with you. I say go for it. Then ask me questions and allow me to point you in the direction of some great resources like this:
The Speak for Yourself Facebook page (which you can be part of even if you use another form of AAC)
And the Praactical AAC blog which is exactly what it says.
Ok, who’s in? Questions?
