Something for Hump Day
Breaking up is actually quite wonderful in the medical world. We’ve broken up with several docs that we just had quicky services with and who had nothing new to offer since we’d been around the block so many times. And it really is them, not me, because honestly, I’m just not into someone who’s not a giver.
This week we broke up with some braces, and no you silly medical virgin, not the kind you put in your mouth…the kind you wear on your feet.
Aidan has been wearing AFOs (ankle-foot orthotics) to support his standing and walking since he was little. His first pair is on the left in the picture (even though those are technically SMOs). It’s a hard plastic shell that reaches just below his knees. He couldn’t walk without them.Fortunately he’s found some super sexy sneakers that fit instead of dorky medical shoes.
But we’re so over them. We’ve moved on to the SMOs (Supra-Malleolar Orthotics). They’re similar but only go over the ankle so they’re much cooler to wear in the summer. (Pictured on right) It’s less support which means that Aidan is doing more work because AIDAN IS STRONG! Last night I went shopping for new socks for him. They have to be thin, like business socks, and short so he doesn’t have to fold them over a million times but tall enough to make it over the brace so they don’t slip and let his sweet skin get sore. I started to have one of those moments (why does everything have to be so hard and where are the socks that are JUST RIGHT for Aidan?) when Liam just grabbed some and said, “These will be fine.”
They totally were. And to celebrate our breaking up and moving on, I leave you this funny video about sex and socks because somehow it seems relevant.
