People wonder if Liam gets lost in the chaos. Raising a child with a disability certainly requires extra effort, extra energy, extra attention. Since I’ve had Aidan, I’ve been especially mindful of Liam.
He’s a quiet, precocious young man now; a teenager who demands little of me. And yet, I savor the moments we sit together to read, or eat ice cream for lunch, or share witty quips throughout the day. Liam is so completely mine.
I’m mostly forbidden to speak to, acknowledge, or heaven forbid touch him in public. Moments like these….
are quite simply a treasure. Liam has not been lost in the chaos; he is a steady light that beckons us into the extraordinary…of the ordinary.
