My First Giveaway
I’m so excited that I won my first giveaway (more on that later) that I just had to have a giveaway of my own. For now, I love the book Rules by Cynthia Lord so much, I just have to share.
This is a beautiful story about Catherine and her brother David who has autism. She helps him keep track of the rules for daily living, such as, “keep your pants on in public.” My favorite part of the story is the friendship between Catherine and Jason. Jason is non-verbal and uses a wheelchair. Yes, I’m partial to him for a reason. I love that Catherine communicates with him by drawing pictures for words that kids really say. As far as I know, there’s no PECS symbol for “speech lady stinks a big one.” Catherine also wrestles honestly with introducing Jason to the rest of her friends. There’s so much to learn here.
So here are your rules for a chance to win a copy of this book. Leave me a comment about what you would write on a picture symbol to communicate. (Don’t hurt your brain here). Make sure your email is visible either on your blog or in your comment so I can find you if you win. Aidan will draw one random name on July 26 at 7pm EST so be sure to enter by then. Don’t forget to share this post with school teachers who frequently spend their own money on supplies for the classroom.
UPDATE – Congrats to Christie the SLP who definitely doesn’t “stink a big one!”
