More on Miles
Here’s one thing that really struck me from Miles’ mom. She found out she was pregnant while she was at the hospital with Miles. She had to go to the teen center to tell her husband, because that’s where the video games are and it’s a good place to take a break in the evening. An event that would most likely take place at home or perhaps out at a celebratory dinner, takes place at the hospital. I distinctly remember going out in public to do routine things while Aidan was in the hospital. Why was life going on as normal for others while my world was crashing? It’s a hard juxtaposition to explain but the image of announcing life while fighting for life seems the perfect picture. Getting in the car to go be part of life, part of your community, is something we don’t really need to think about. Just go…unless it’s not safe. Another routine thing becomes something that causes pause. I pause now with gratitude for my accessible van and for our safety, hoping that soon, Miles’ family will too.
