In the Beginning – Part Nine
This is an email that went out from Garreth’s parents. It’s quite powerful and many people responded to their request:
It starts with a brief medical back story. One of the leading specialist in the hospital has surmised that it could be Congenital Hyperventilation Syndrome. (This is the previous mentioned Dr. S disease, which Aidan totally didn’t have. However, Aidan was the topic of one of Dr. S’s presentations which YaYa Dr. Juliette attended. Pretty cool.) If this is confirmed it could mean that he could have to be on a ventilator at night-time for the rest of his life and also he would have to have a tracheotomy. (I remember one of the doctors telling me he would lead a totally normal life this way. Really? Normal? Can’t breathe at night, no sleepovers? Nope, not normal.) However this has not yet been confirmed as things change from day to day! (Another major understatement)
The medical staff at the hospitals have been greatly drawn to Aidan and are amazed at Garreth and Heather’s attitude and the way they are handling the situation. (Queen of Denial here!) We know that it is because of all the prayer that is going up for them all, and we just thank God for everyone who has been praying. A lovely picture came to mind the other day of angels surrounding Aidan’s little cot and especially at night-time, and no doubt there is a special peace there too.
In Matthew 17 a father brings his child to the disciples but they could not heal him. But Jesus did and his disciples asked Him, “Why could we not do this?” Jesus replied, “This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” It was actually this story that God kept bringing to mind, and as a result we believe that He is asking us to call a day of prayer and fasting for Aidan. It would be wonderful if you felt you could do this. I know for some fasting may not be possible, but during the day if you could pray for him, we would really appreciate it. We have decided on May 1.
Just a few things that come to mind to pray for:
That only treatment that will be of benefit will be given.(Done) That he will be kept from any infections around the hospital.(Done) That doctors and nurses will be given wisdom. (Done. We had a great medical team even if they didn’t come up with a diagnosis. Sometimes, there just isn’t one to find.) That Liam will be be able to adjust to all the comings and goings and for protection to Garreth and Heather as they do such a lot of traveling from home to hospital. (Done and done)
Our natural desire is that Aidan will be completely healed, and a verse which we have made our prayer over these last weeks is from Ephesians 3 v.20-21
Now unto HIM who by the action of His power in Aidan is able to carry out His purposes for him, and do superabundantly over and above all that we dare to ask or think, and infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes or dreams. To Him be glory in the Church and in Jesus Christ throughout all generations forever and ever.
*This is the story of Aidan’s first few months. It starts here. My present day thoughts are in bold. It’s thankful thursday so friend us on FaceBook (Aidan TeamAidan Bowie) and tell us what you’re thankful for.
