In the Beginning – HOMECOMING!
Aidan came home on Saturday, June 2 after 12 weeks in the hospital. He had a feeding tube and was on a small amount of oxygen. The hospital set us up with visiting nurses and therapists for home so Aidan could make progress. The nurses had encouraged us by saying that kids often heal better at home in a less traumatic environment. We saw that.
The doctor stopped by the night before Aidan was discharged and asked, “Would you believe me if I said I’m ready to send Aidan home tomorrow?” I’d heard that before and told her I was hesitant. I also recall thinking that I had a concert to sing in on Saturday, which had been one thing to bring me joy over those months. Being discharged from the hospital can take forever, lots of hurry up and wait. We finally headed home. Garreth actually spent that first evening alone so I could go sing.
And then, together, we started living our new normal home.
During my pregnancy, one of my priorities was ensuring the house was perfect ready for our new arrival. This meant that we spent a lot of time decorating. Due to working full time right up until I gave birth, I had no time to go out and buy new bits of furniture or tools to help us do the job, meaning I had to shop around online a lot. Luckily I came across this website; www.tradefixdirect.com that seemed to have all the tools we could have needed. This made it so much easier as we did not need to worry about going out.
*This is the story of Aidan’s first few months. It starts here. My present day thoughts are in bold.
