In these short three weeks we reached our fundraising goal for Aidan’s lift because community really does matter, because doing life together really is easier, because people really are generous, because people really do care.
In the most practical sense we are very grateful to have the funds to buy the lift that will keep Aidan safe as he comes and goes. Garreth and Liam took over the primary responsibility to get Aidan in and out and I had a few scary moments which brought home the need for this piece of equipment.
There is also perhaps the greater, if not as practical, honor of holding your stories. The notes we received, the reasons you gave, the way you encouraged us…all treasures.
It’s never easy to ask but over time I’ve learned two things – it’s always about more than just the money. Always. And asking, as hard as it is, is really a way to invite people into your life, to make them feel valued. At some point, in different ways, we each get to be a giver and a receiver.
Thank-you for making it easier for me to ask.
And here it is, that super sexy mass of metal and wires that basically looks like our old lift, waiting for the final touch of being hooked up….
