Thankful Thursday

The big question when Aidan does any kind of therapy is, “Will it help him in real life”?  Certainly some therapy is simple repetition to teach his brain what to do and build his strength.  However, we always have an end goal in mind.  This week at physical therapy he reached two big goals in walking – independence and functionality. After several weeks of not having therapy, Aidan usually looses some stamina and needs some...

Thankful Thursday

And thus ends my favorite week in which: Aidan had a blast at arts and crafts. Aidan sang with his class. The boys are being Jesus who is saying “No” to the temptations the devil throws at him. Aidan has a “No” sign attached to his hat. He loved it. Aidan rapped the Lord’s Prayer with the boys. This somehow lead to Liam rapping all of his random thoughts the entire way home. I LOVE...

Thankful Thursday

Ok, I’m really excited about this one because this guy wrote the book on gratitude. Really. It’s not a book of lists. It’s a book of blurbs, funny, simple, and poignant. Some of my favorite awesome things in this book are: Becoming a regular somewhere (thank-you Portsmouth Tea). When you learn a new word and start seeing it everywhere (thank-you YaYa Jen for counter-intuitive during a 1am game of Pictionary). Eating the last piece of...

Thankful Thursday

There have been a few incredibly painful times in my life that, while in them, I saw no benefit. It’s only with change in time and perspective that I can see the good things that came out of them. Aidan is obviously a good thing in my life, but there was a time I wondered if that would be so. I look back on these difficult periods and realized they cemented in me the truth...

Thankful Thursday

Today I’m thankful for the normal in my life. Many of our activities are geared around what is good for Aidan or what he can do. Then we make sure we balance that with fun times with Liam. It’s a little harder to engage everyone for a good time. Basketball is a favorite family activity. Liam is not afraid to take the ball from Aidan. Aidan loves to zoom around fast, and Garreth is actually...

Thankful Thursday

Garreth is thankful for his new potatoes from his fabulous garden. Liam is thankful that his best friend’s dad got a job. Aidan is thankful that he got to eat pizza with Miles tonight. I’m thankful for thankful thursdays, for moments like these when I can stop with my family and count our numerous blessings big and small.

Thankful Thursday

SShhhhh…..today I’m thankful for quiet. Liam is away. Aidan is working with his home health aide, and I’m stealing away to somewhere quiet with my Kindle. I know some people love to make me out to be a saint who works her butt off with Aidan all the time, but I’m not. I can very easily leave my to-do list on the table and hide with a good book. So, please, don’t come find me.

Thankful Thursday

Easy peasy. I can walk. I can do all those amazing things it takes to put one foot in front of the other. And Aidan is doing a great job learning as well. This is why I have thankful thursdays, to acknowledge what we often take for granted. Give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.

Thankful Thursday

Today I’m thankful for my sweet Caleb. Well, he’s not technically mine but he and his family have been a significant part of our lives on many levels. Medically speaking, Caleb should never have been born. His heart was enlarged and there was simply no room for anything else. God intended from the beginning that Caleb be born with chubby cheeks, great story telling abilities, and an energy for life that is hard to match....

Thankful Thursday

Today I’m thankful for consonants. We were at Liam’s baseball game this week when I said to Garreth, “Do you hear that?” We both looked at Aidan. He speaks with a very open voweled sound and throws in a few mmms and bbbs here and there. That night he was stringing together a bunch of consonants and vowels and it was very exciting. When Liam got up to bat, I think I heard Aidan yell,...
