Books and More Books
So check these out before you finish your Christmas shopping. Someone will want these. These books are all basically elementary school aged books featuring kids with special needs, read and enjoyed by both Liam and me.
Firegirl by Tony Abbott – This is a thoughtful, if not emotionally difficult story to read. It’s about a girl with severe burns on her body. Naturally it addresses issues such as being ostracized, a falling apart marriage, and the courage of a classmate. Well worth your time.
Anything but Typical by Nora Raleigh Baskin – A thought provoking look into the life of a 12 year old boy with autism. He’s a brother, a classmate, and a writer. It takes the boy meets girl angst to a whole new level. A great learning experience.
Million Dollar Throw by Mike Lupica – This is one of Liam’s favorite authors, primarily a sports writer (not my genre). Liam knows I’m a sucker for a good story and this is it. It’s about a football player, with a best friend, and a great heart. It’s enough to restore your faith in the kindness of kids. Just read it.
Ways to Live Forever by Sally Nicholls – A very moving story about a boy with leukemia who loves to make lists and attempts to live a regular life in anything but regular circumstances. A bit of a tear jerker.
So what books did I miss?
P.S. I apparently lost my mad blogging skills between yesterday and today so you have to click on the title, not the image, to order. And also P.P.S. I didn’t get any free stuff for saying great things about these books. I thoroughly enjoyed them, and that opinion is all mine.
