Aidan Runs His First Marathon!!
Ok, well, it’s not technically a marathon as it’s actually 209 miles. This is the Team Powerthirst Reach the Beach Relay and Aidan gets to be runner number 13 and cross the finish line with them! Aidan does have blue eyes like McDreamy and he’s pretty darn handsome too. It’s all very exciting and a great example of the African proverb that it takes a village to raise a child. How did this come about, you ask? Well, I sent an email to friends and family with an update on Aidan (see first post). It stated our need for a van. The response from my friend Christie was full of enthusiasm and willingness to help meet this goal. So, I did what any smart mom would do – I made her a Team Captain. Her husband Eric is a Powerthirst runner. He took it upon himself to get his friends motivated to raise money for Aidan’s van. This is the first time they have raised money for a cause and they don’t even know us. When I think about all of this, I am humbled and amazed and hopeful. Sure, I feel like I would contribute to this cause if it were for someone else, but being on the receiving end is a whole different story. So, in honor of their efforts, I pledged some sweat on Aidan’s part. He will walk up a step for every mile they run. That’s 209 steps. For Aidan, this is no small feat. Watch our step counter on this blog to see how he’s doing. He woke up early this morning and did 2 flights of stairs while waiting for the bus. He walks up stairs to get to his 4th grade classroom. Aidan is on the move and with Team Powerthirst’s help, he’ll be rolling along in his van. Come celebrate with us and watch Aidan and Powerthirsters race to the finish at Hampton Beach next saturday afternoon. Check this blog next week for more details. I’ll be shedding 209 tears for sure!
